I was going to quit, for no encouragement came yesterday! In all seriousness, I took a few weeks of break to collect my thoughts and to reconsider whether the time investment was worth this product. Still, unsure, but after browsing through the website metrics, I was surprised enough at the results to feel some motivation for this project.
Last week, I received my first couple of comments on my articles, I thought they were interesting at the time, proving someone was viewing my content, but also made me lose interest because it was weird spam. I suppose this is a problem every blog owner will face.

~ My readers. Thanks for the keyword stuffing..
The initial settings for comments so far has been that I must approve comments before they are displayed, which leaves me in an awkward place of not wanting to be a moderator, but knowing only spammers are interested in commenting. However, I’ve decided to just let anyone comment without approval, so discussions are actually possible and I’m not approving comments on a regular basis. Feel free to comment a word salad down below..
I was stumbling around cPanel and came across Awstats.
The visitor statistics have motivated me! For now. I had assumed any website visits this month would be mostly my own, refreshing the page or wishing for more content. It is pretty exciting that it seems likely that all 279 visits are not my own! It is a blessing for me to have readers in Russia, China, South Korea, and other places where English is not the first language. However, the user duration statistics leave much to be desired, with 99% of users leaving immediately or within 30 seconds. I’m writing for the 10 people that stay to read. Thanks!
Search Engine Rankings
So far, I am not ranking well on Google for extremely specific keywords such as “thenicheblog”.
Bing.com has “the niche blog” as the third ranked, so thanks to Microsoft for the encouragement!
Working for Encouragement
I’ve read that the entrepreneur invests his time upfront, and that often means working without encouragement, advice, or opinion. Surely, it is difficult to create an idea or community, not knowing any word I write will find an audience. That is the most difficult aspect of this operation. Feedback is nice, either in the form of comments, views, visitors, or some type of income. So today, my plan going forward, is to maximize the opportunities I have to receive encouragement. I’ve opened up the comments, so hopefully someone will post something thoughtful for discussion, rather than a string of expletives and porno verbs.
Additionally, I’ve decided to go live with Google Analytics and perhaps even Google AdSense today, as these may further impress me to continue some wordings. Here is a good article on installing Google Analytics with WordPress, basically using the Monster Insights plugin.
That was really simple!! Unfortunately, Google AdSense was not cooperating today, with Google telling me my phone number is invalid. That’s ok, some progress has been made, we can rally back another day to learn monetization.
Thanks for hanging out! I’ll make this a short one today, and wait for some foreign motivation to continue this trek to become a niche website master. Do you have any advice? I’ll reply to non-insane comments!
More stuff soon.
